What is Double Trouble?

Double Trouble is Bid Euchre with two trump suits. Trump switches mid-hand — what's dead weight in the first half becomes powerful in the second.

Bidding

Bidding is the same as Classic Bid Euchre. When you win the bid, you name two trump suits in order instead of one.

The Trump Switch

Tricks 1–3 use the first trump you named. After trick 3 completes, the second trump activates for tricks 4–6. The trump indicator updates automatically — watch it closely.

Cards that were plain non-trump can suddenly become trump after trick 3. Plan ahead.

Bowers

Both bowers apply to whichever trump suit is currently active. In the second half, the Right and Left Bower shift to the new trump suit.

Scoring

Identical to Classic Bid Euchre. Make your bid = score tricks won. Get set = lose your bid amount. First to 42 points wins.

Strategy Tips

  1. Distribute your trump strength across both halves of the hand.
  2. Don't play all your best cards in tricks 1–3.
  3. Second-trump cards are dead weight early — save them for tricks 4–6.
  4. Bid more conservatively than Classic — the switch creates uncertainty.
  5. Communicate with your partner through your bid amount.
